Achieving Carnegie R1

UTSA attained the prestigious Carnegie R1 Classification in 2021, reaching a significant milestone along the path to becoming one of our nation's great public research universities. To build on this recognition, UTSA is continuing to grow its annual research expenditures, expand its pipeline of doctoral students, garner national recognition for its researchers and adding National Academy members to its faculty.

UTSA is gaining national recognition for making big investments in its Classroom to Career (C2C) initiative the university’s “secret sauce” for producing Career-Ready Roadrunners. Students can take advantage of opportunities from their first day at UTSA through Career-Engaged Learning resources like the Najim Center for innovation and Career Advancement.

CAREER EXPLORATION & PREPARATION Najim Center for Innovation and Career Advancement

The Najim Center was established in 2020 by local entrepreneur and philanthropist Harvey E. Najim. Najim wanted to create a space where all students could access resources for career exploration and preparation and discover experiential learning opportunities. In 2022, Najim committed another $2 million gift to expand the center’s reach, build its network in downtown San Antonio, and provide more students with hands-on learning experiences.

COMING SOON San Pedro II - Supporting Innovation & Entrepreneurship

Opening in 2025, San Pedro II will allow UTSA to draw on the broad opportunities that exist in San Antonio to address the city’s pressing workforce needs, to connect UTSA students with experiential learning and career-engagement opportunities, and to provide training to prepare students for careers in interdisciplinary fields such as cybersecurity, computer and data sciences.
